Idea Gauntlet
Pitch an idea and defend it against a gauntlet of AI critics. A game that shows how AI can sharpen critical thinking.
Generative AI makes it easy to hand off our thinking: drafting, summarizing, and even judging which ideas are any good. That convenience has a cost. Researchers have long warned about the “ironies of automation,” in which automating a task erodes the very skills people need to oversee it, and recent studies of knowledge workers suggest that the more people trust AI’s output, the less critically they engage with it. If AI does our thinking for us, we risk losing the ability to think for ourselves.
AI doesn’t have to replace critical thinking, though. It can also provoke it. Instead of an assistant that agrees with your idea and polishes it, Idea Gauntlet gives you adversaries that probe it for weaknesses.
Idea Gauntlet turns “defend your idea” into a turn-based boss rush. You enter one idea and then face a series of AI personas (a skeptic, a pragmatist, a visionary, and more), one battle at a time. An LLM judge scores each exchange: strong arguments damage the boss, and the holes the boss finds in your reasoning damage you.
It is part debate trainer and part roguelike. Each battle asks you to anticipate objections, shore up weak assumptions, and explain why your idea matters, which are exactly the skills that atrophy when AI does the arguing for you. The goal is to show how AI can help people improve their critical-thinking skills rather than do their thinking for them.
